The mystery, I think. He doesnt say much so women fill in the blanks. Also I think its refreshing; a relief from the knuckle-dragging Neanderthals out there. They like the challenge of getting him to open up. And, yes, they even ask him out, but hes the three-date strikeout king. Being shy can work for you at first, but it wont get you what you want in the long run. Women want a man to be confident and assertive. Then they can be a woman! If you dont step up to the plate, youll bring out the mother in them and be relegated to the friends category. Youll have lots of female companionship, but no romance. So keep in mind a little boy youve seen recently, and avoid doing the things that little boys do with their moms they ask permission, they worry about pleasing her, they never take initiative, they arent spontaneous, they dont know what they want, and they expect to be taken care of. You dont need any of that, so make sure you arent giving the wrong impression. Dating is frustrating to everyone. I coach men and women both, around emotional intelligence, dating and relationships, and I hear the same thing from both sexes. Its frustration, rejection, confusion, and mystery until it works out, and it will. No one knows whats going on, so just hang in there. Men that have a lot of bravado are just covering it up. No one likes to strike out, but everyone does. If you dont step up to the plate and take a swing, you cant get a home run. Its as simple as that. It gets easier with time, your odds improve as you practice, and the reward is definitely worth it. Eventually youll see a ball coming over the plate you know is a home run, and you can hit it out of the park. Here are some tips: 1. Monitor your self-talk. Keep it positive and affirming. Talk to yourself the way youd talk to a buddy you wanted to encourage. 2. Monitor the self-talk of other guys. If its one thing guys lie about, its their prowess with women. Every mans in there taking his knocks just like you are. 3. Your emotions dont have to stop you in your tracks. You can be nervous and keep going. You can be worried about rejection and still take a risk. This is like a workout, building character muscle, aka tolerance for frustration. 4. Start from the inside out. What are you shy about? Make a list of all you have to offer and believe it. If theres something you need to work on, get some coaching and take care of it. Otherwise, take pride in who you are and stay centered. Not all the women will like you, but you need all the women. You just need HER. 5. Practice where its safe. Being outgoing is something you can try with the person next to you in the grocery line. Talk to strangers. Watch outgoing people and see what specific behaviors they do the eye contact, the tone of voice, the posture, the conversation-starters. It isnt a mystery, its a set of skills, like a tennis serve. 6. If she asks you out first, thats fine, but you must take charge or youre going to be moved into the just friends category. Take over and be spontaneous. Dont ask her what she wants to do or where she wants to go. Plan something any woman would enjoy and expect her to go along. Use your gut feelings. 7. Dont try and please her all the time. This gets annoying with time. Just be you and go! Any healthy woman will squawk if she doesnt like something. Otherwise, assume all is well and carry on. 8. Have an opinion and express it. 9. Talk as well as listen. Theres nothing more attractive than someone who gives us their undivided attention, but take your share of it, otherwise shell see you as a doormat and lose interest. Set your ipod alarm if need be its time for you to talk! 10. Kiss her when you feel like it. Its easier to get forgiveness than permission. Shell let you know when shes ready. Go with your gut. 11. Nobody gets to be on a pedestal. Whether youre worshiping at her feet, or your own, get down to earth. Youre two real people, not actors in a movie. Youre not there to judge each others date performance, youre there to enjoy one another and have a good time. Know your stance/alignment and stance/takeoff so youre positioned right, and you cant lose. No matter what happens with her, you will have had a good time, and thats how you build confidence. 12. Practice. The only way you can get a hole-in-one is to take that bucket of balls out to the shooting range and hit balls for two hours. Shyness is a combination of innate personality, and insecurity. Your personalitys great. Insecurity isnt. You get confidence by training, so get a coach. Its not just for sports any more. Activity (over production) 2. People (over capacity) 3. Processes (over complication) 4. Waiting (poor communication) 5. Excessive Communication Costs 6. Trial and Error 7. Excessive Lead Costs 1. Activity (over production) Too many people doing too many different things. Thousands of brochures produced with no clear plan how to get them in the right hands. You’re not quite sure what you aim to achieve, but there is budget (or time) to spend and any marketing activity is seen as good activity. Performing lots of different marketing activities without first having a clear vision and strategy in place is a massive area of waste. Your business may perform well as a result of so much effort (and cost), but how do you know what is working and what isn’t? Measuring ROI on activity is essential. This will enable you to focus more effectively on the successful activity and completely remove the need for unsuccessful or wasteful marketing approaches to free up capital as profit or to fund other business improvement initiatives. 2. People (over / under capacity) Too many people involved in the marketing process can also be a big area of waste. In particular, full time marketing managers can waste a lot of time choosing where to spend your money on promotion. The marketing director or CEO needs to be able to enlist good marketing advice and planning as it is needed and then allow experts outside the company to implement the necessary action. There is no need for an internal marketing manager to oversee this if you use the right marketing consultants. By carefully retaining the services of a marketing consultancy you can gain access to a range of experience that no single individual can ever hope to possess. You can then recruit a more junior but bright person from within your company to liaise with your consultants and yourself. You can never truly know if your marketing manager is working at full steam and I’m certain that they won’t tell you unless they want more budget to spend on the next CV enhancing fad. If you are a marketing manager reading this, be honest, maybe you should talk to your boss about a more flexible retained position. This way you can look for other contracts and build your exposure to more businesses which will enhance your ability to perform well. There comes a time when your lack of time causes waste for your business and holds you back. You must seriously look at the skills gap and address the needs of your business (and your sanity!). 3. Processes (over complication) Lean Manufacturing (where we learned our trade) deals with the process of moving an order through your supply chain and to your customer. In this instance we’re talking about the marketing process - this deals with acquiring the customer in the first place and how you handle your customers once you have them. Getting your sales and marketing process right will enable you to reduce the cost of gaining new business, dealing with your customers and upselling new services and products. Other important things to include when refining your processes are measurement tools. Once you begin to measure success against strategic key performance indicators you will have the information to continuously improve and reduce waste even further. If your customer facing processes work well you will also find that customer satisfaction will improve. 4. Waiting (poor communication) An over hierarchical communication structure can make it very difficult to take action quickly. This lack of flexibility can cause waste in the form of missed opportunities and unnecessary inaction. If the people responsible for implementing marketing for your business are inactive then you are wasting money. We’re not just talking about the hierarchy in your business (you may not have one) - we’re talking about the hierarchies in your marketing consultancy, web developers or ad agency. If you see marketing as a fundamental part of your business then waiting is rarely a problem. If the CEO or board view marketing as separate from the business, then lower priority will be given to spending and decision making in this area. Changing communication policy or empowering people closer to your marketing activity with limited (and accountable) financial independence will help to overcome this problem. 5. Excessive Communication Costs Traditional methods of communication - mail / fax / phone / in-person are relatively expensive, and though still essential, need to be mixed with other more cost effective methods. The Internet is a powerful way to reduce communication costs, but still far too few businesses embrace it as such. Let’s say that you produce a monthly printed newsletter for your customers. This will involve cost at the following stages: design; copywriting; editing; printing; packing; distribution. Now imagine the same idea using email. The cost areas are: design; copywriting; editing; distribution. Firstly, there are fewer steps (less time) in the email process, but when you look at the steps that are omitted you’ll also find that they are the costs that escalate (stamps, envelopes, printing) as you communicate to a growing audience. How many times do your people get asked the same questions? Every time they answer a frequently asked question they are performing a duty that does not add value but can’t be ignored. There are ways to reduce the guesswork as well as reducing the cost of targeting and increasing conversions. The biggest failing of most traditional marketing promotion is that it relies on interrupting people when they aren’t necessarily looking for the product or service you have to offer. Just think what happens when you are watching your favourite TV show; the advertisements are a useful break to make a cup of tea or go to the toilet. They aren’t providing something you were actively looking for by watching TV. Advertisements in glossy magazines interrupt you when you’re in the middle of an article. They may improve your awareness of a product or service but you’ll rarely welcome the opportunity to read them - you’ll ignore them! The bits of paper and advertisements that are shoved into magazines and Sunday newspapers are also wasteful. If you’re like me then I bet you simply shake the magazine until all of the annoying bits fall out and then throw them in the bin. You need to find places and procedures for attracting people to look for your solution and find you without interrupting them. A correctly designed and marketed website is the ideal solution. 7. Excessive Lead Costs What do you currently have to do to find new leads? If you’re in B2C then list brokers are useful, but as soon as you buy a list you’re well aware that the information will be out of date (instant waste). So you pay for your own people or a telesales agency to clean the list. Then you may only get one shot at this list before you pay again. See the problem? B2B businesses should almost never buy lists. The Internet has opened up a whole range of opportunities for finding information to build your own database. Every other element of waste involved in promotion (especially trial and error interruptive marketing) is wasting money. You need to look at the important elements of a process and remove the unnecessary. Then with what’s left, ask yourself, “How can we do the same thing cheaper?” Reducing lead cost can also be achieved by selling more to your existing customers and building referral streams. Before you make assumptions you’ll need to measure. There are plenty of people who don’t even know how much each lead costs or more importantly how this can be calculated. A hernia is a weakness or defect in the abdominal muscles which can result in the protrusion of tissue through an opening in the outer layers of the abdominal wall. Hernias can develop at any part of the abdominal wall, but generally occur in areas that have a natural tendency to be weak. While hernias generally do not pose serious long-term health problems, they can cause severe pain and discomfort for those suffering from this condition. Most meshes currently on the market are made from synthetic materials such as polypropylene, polyester, silicone or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), commonly known by the DuPont brand name Teflon. While these meshes have good strength characteristics, they remain in the body as permanent implants and sometimes can cause adverse reactions when the surrounding tissue identifies these materials as foreign bodies. In order to avoid adverse reactions to synthetic materials, some surgeons prefer to use meshes made of biomaterials which are gradually resorbed by the body over time and are then eliminated through biological processes. Since these meshes are not permanent implants, they generally only offer temporary repair of abdominal wall defects and additional surgical procedures are sometimes required to replace the absorbed mesh. An alternative to synthetic and absorbable mesh is human tissue. There are a handful of companies that are now marketing processed, freeze-dried human dermis for soft tissue repair and augmentation. This material is implanted using the same technique as other meshes and provides for revascularization, cellular ingrowth and remodeling into the patients tissue. While this option generally provides a permanent repair with few adverse reactions, the processing and distribution of human tissue is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as are most other products that are implanted in the human body. In fact, there have been a number of recent cases of serious infections and even deaths resulting from the implantation of human cadaveric tissue during surgical procedures. New technologies have recently been developed to solve the problems associated with the use of synthetic substances, absorbable materials and human tissue in hernia repair procedures. Scientists in Europe have been conducting research and development into alternatives to these products over the past two decades and have made major breakthroughs in this area over the past several years. New ways of collecting and processing natural materials have led to a series of products that offer the strength of synthetic compounds, the biocompatibility of biomaterials and the regenerative properties of human tissue. What material can offer all of the benefits of the previously mentioned products without the corresponding disadvantages? Porcine dermal collagen has an architectural structure very close to human tissue, and is therefore readily recognized as friendly by the human body. Not only is it safe, since the structure of the collagen is so similar to human tissue, once it is implanted the sheet provides the basis for cellular ingrowth and revascularization. This results in a permanent fix in even the most difficult cases. In addition to the positive clinical outcomes, surgeons like the fact that they do not need to change their surgical technique to use this product. They can use the same exact same steps they would use for synthetic or absorbable surgical mesh in both open and laparoscopic procedures. Only physicians can properly diagnose and appropriately treat hernias. However, patients have the right to actively participate in decisions that affect their health or quality of life. Your bank will always be happy to find the following documents included in your account-formation package: Bank Account Purpose. Many banks require information about the shareholders of any company seeking a banking relationship with them. Most often, this can take the form of a copy of the company’s register of shareholders. In an increasing number of jurisdictions, banks have legal responsibility to have this information. Confirmation of identity. Virtually all offshore banks want to receive some form of evidence of the account signatories’ identity. This is can be a copy of a passport or a driving license. Depending on the bank, photocopies might have to be notarised. In addition, there are offshore banks that request proofs of identity not only for the actual account signatories, but for all directors and owners of the company as well (if different). Bank references. Many offshore banks, but not all, request that letters of reference from another bank is provided by account signatories. Some offshore banks go even further: they demand that a bank reference each be given by all directors and shareholders of the company. There even are a few that will contact the issuing bank to verify references. References are sometimes needed instead of, and sometimes in addition to, the confirmation of identity. There are jurisdictions where banks are under legal obligations to seek references, and there are banks that request references despite any legal obligation to do so.
