The REAL JESUS Can’t Return Until

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By David Ben-Ariel Prophecy clearly reveals that the REAL JESUS CHRIST will not return to Earth from Heaven (in full view of all mankind - not from some secret EU or Vatican chamber or desert cave) until after Jerusalem has suffered under a Gentile EU occupation for three and one half years, complete with Europe’s wannabe divine emperor polluting the holy Temple just like Antiochus Epiphanes polluted the Temple before (as the Prophet Daniel forewarned). The Two Witnesses, representing Judah and Levi (priest and king - God’s system of government as opposed to Rome’s demonic system of Babylon), will testify against the counterfeit kingdom of God (the final revival of the unholy Roman Empire) and will testify against the wannabe God who pollutes the Temple with his unclean presence and fights against the biblical people who love and obey God and reject the idolatrous traditions of men. These same two witnesses will herald the coming of our King from Heaven, the King of the Jews, the King of Israel (first and foremost) to restore God’s government on Earth and establish the literal divine Kingdom-Family of God on Earth, liberating Jerusalem and regathering the British-Israelite and Jewish holocaust survivors from the four corners of the earth, destroying the Beast and False Prophet as announced in the Book of Revelation. We’re offered insight into the attitude of “business as usual” leading up to the Return of the King: Matthew 24:37-44 37 For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.40 Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left.41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.42 Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.43 But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the Thief wascoming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.44 For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. This Scripture doesn’t support the “rapture” nonsense but further knocks it in the head by showing the separation between believers and non-believers occurs at the Second Coming of Christ - not years before to take Christians away from the Great Tribulation/Time of Jacob’s Trouble! God will spare some from going through such a horrible ordeal, but He will protect them right here ON EARTH - not up in Heaven! (Rev. 12). We are taught that we won’t know the exact day but we will know when it is any day now - just like Noah knew and the world didn’t! Concerning the coming of our Lord and Savior, Yeshua, Christians won’t be caught off guard as we are Children of the Light and not left in darkness like the world. Notice the great contrast between us and them: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, Peace and safety! then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. Come Lord Yeshua! At-Home Relief For Ingrown Hairs

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Alice Kay #1 Use Antibiotic Soap Antibiotic soap helps to clear up and prevent the infections caused by ingrown hairs. There are a number you can purchase on-line or at the drugstore, two are PanOxyl (with 10% hydrogen peroxide) and Reviva (which makes a whole line of hydrogen peroxide products). #2 Exfoliate, But Be Gentle Exfoliation with a wash cloth or a loofah can be a great way to get rid of dead skin cell, and can help prevent ingrown hairs. However, if you already have a number of ingrown hairs (especially if they are infected) clean them up before you begin exfoliating. Otherwise, you may further irritate your skin and make your condition worse. #3 Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize Since hard, bristly hairs more easily penetrate the skin than soft hairs, make sure you use a lotion to keep skin and hairs soft. Moisturizer is also good for providing a barrier against the outside world, whether it is clothing (legs, pubic area) or the face (beards, scruff). For the legs, I like lotion with tea tree oil (which is a natural antiseptic). If you are adding your own to your lotion, don’t use more than two or three drops at a time, as tea tree oil can be very drying. Tea tree can now be found at a number of drugstores now, or you can look for it on-line at Amazon (there’s several sizes you can buy, click here) or at any store selling essential oils. For the men, the only beard/scrubble lotion I know is made by Bluebeards Original. It is made to soften bristles and help prevent ingrown hairs (this is what my husband uses, you can get it online or at some natural food stores). #4. If Your Condition Doesn’t Improve, See a Doctor As always, see an expert if your condition does not improve or worsens. Doctors can evaluate your individual needs and prescribe medication, if necessary. Ideas for Creating Your Wedding Scrapbook

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Susie Cortright A wedding is one of life’s most momentous events, and that means making your wedding scrapbook can be an intimidating prospect. Here are some tips to help you get going: — Figure out the details ahead of time. Making some decisions as to the theme and color scheme of the album will save you time and money. First, you’ll need to decide whether this album will cover your entire wedding celebration - from engagement through honeymoon - or will you focus on just the wedding day itself? If you decide on the latter, you might want to choose a 6×6 or 8×8 album project for the bridal shower, bachelorette party, honeymoon, etc. Next, you’ll want to choose a color scheme. The most popular choice is to work with your wedding colors. Consider setting off these wedding colors (or other colors you choose) by pairing them with a classic black or white cardstock background. I love the look of black-on-white in wedding albums. I also love mulberry flowers, ribbons, vellum and fabric. Deep reds and pinks accents are gorgeous, too, for simple embellishments. Remember that elegance and simplicity tend to go hand in hand. The wedding scrapbooks that stand the test of time are timeless and classic. You’ll also want to look at some simple wedding scrapbook layout samples or sketches of completed albums so you can see what kind of supplies you’ll need. At the very least, you’ll want to know how many pages the finished album will be before you go to the scrapbook store. The more detailed your plan, the less money you’re likely to spend. — Go through your photos and memorabilia For me, scrapbooking is about telling the stories of our lives, so I love to work with the photographs that really tell a story. You’ll want to choose only the best and most interesting photographs for your wedding scrapbook album. (The posed portrait-type photos can be framed and sent to family members.) Store the remainder of the photos in a companion photo album. Remember, simple is elegant. It’s also a good idea to work with duplicates of your priceless wedding photos. You may find that you want to work with these photos again in the future, and you’re certain to feel more of a creative license if you know that the originals and intact and safe. Memorabilia. I tend to go easy on memorabilia…maybe keeping the majority of it in a memento box along with my companion photo album and scrapbook, because I don’t like to detract from the story of the album. Memorabilia you might want to include (either directly on the page or in a special pocket): - Wedding and shower invitations - Fabric from your dress or bridesmaid dress - Receipts - Honeymoon plane tickets - Place cards - Bridal registry - Shower gift lists - Napkins Make a simple checklist of the kinds of things you’d like to include, but trust your inner artist to take the reins and let the story unfold. — Don’t forget the journaling The most powerful journaling comes not from the 5 w’s (who, what, where, when, and why) - but from the 5 senses. Specific details are more memorable and intriguing than generalities and the best way to vividly remember your wedding day is to focus on each of your senses. What do you remember seeing, hearing, thinking, feeling, tasting? How did you feel as you were standing at the altar? How did your wedding cake taste? What was the weather like? What stands out as the visual symbol of your day? Ask the wedding party to contribute their thoughts via journaling, too. Ask for specific memories…”the most memorable part of my day was…” Coach guests and members of your bridal party to use their five senses, too. Another trick that creates more powerful journaling is to start with a blank page and write “I remember” at the top. Now, simply reflect on the day of your wedding and let your hand move across the page. If you get stuck, write “I remember” again and keep writing. Your goal is simply to keep the pen moving across the page, without crossing anything out or stopping to think too much. Aim to complete two to three pages, and you’ll be amazed by the flood of memories this technique release - even if your wedding wasn’t in the recent past. These methods can create very emotion-filled journaling, so consider keeping private journaling tucked away in journaling pockets. — Assembling the Scrapbook Start the album with a dedication page. Tell why you created the album and a few details on why your wedding was such an important day in your life. It’s a good idea, in wedding scrapbooks particularly, to avoid overly trendy design techniques. I’ve talked to more than one scrapbooker who now regrets cutting her priceless wedding photos into silhouettes or cutesy shapes. A wedding scrapbook is timeless, so - again - simple is most likely better. A simple design also tends to better draw attention to the photos and journaling - your personal love story. Your wedding scrapbook will be one of the most albums in your home. Enjoy the process of creating it! Civil War Uniforms: 5 Tips on Making Your Trousers Last Forever!

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Paula McCoach Are your pants wearing out too fast? Does it look like you are expecting a flood because your pants are too short? Make your Civil War Uniform trousers last forever by following these 5 tips! 1. Cut your trousers long, so when you first start wearing them you will have to roll them up a few times. Your inseam should be a few inches longer. Dont worry! It is authentic to roll them up. Why should I do this? You might say. Because they will shrink every time you wash and wear them! 2. All my pants are either jean cloth or cotton I don’t have any wool because so many reenactments are hot! That is why I recommend you try to find a jean cloth. Jean cloth will be cooler. 3. Find a jean cloth that does not itch too badly. Or you can line your jean cloth pants if you have sensitive skin, but they will be so much cooler than wool pants. Cotton pants are perfectly all right…they are documented in ECHOES OF GLORY: ARMS AND EQUIPMENT OF THE CONFEDERACY. The military pattern was created from the civilian patterns of the day. Pick a style you like and get a pattern for it and follow the directions on the pattern 4. All stitching that shows on your trousers needs to be hand done as well as all the buttonholes. I recommend using bone or metal buttons can be used. Some metal buttons can rust and stain your pants. Brass would be a good metal to use if you are going for metal buttons, which are more durable. You want strong buttons on your trousers because of all the wear and tear they will get. Stay away from shell or glass buttons because they will break. 5. Another suggestion is to put a back button on your trousers, so the material does not rip and to give this part of your pants as much strength as possible. So, now your pants will last for many reenactments to come! How NOT to fix Your Wife (Girlfriend or Date)!

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Steve Roberts Men are dense… in relationships. Men, I know this isn’t going to be a popular statement, but you know that it is true in many ways. We may state that women are not understandable, that they don’t make sense, they are not logical, or that the particular one we’re with is worse than all the others. But, the truth is, we’re dullards when it comes to the deeper realities of relationships. There are exceptions, but not very many. For instance, my expertise as a marriage and family therapist is relationships. But I can tell you that any woman coming into my office knows more in her little finger innately about relationships than I do. Women have been raised on them. When they come out of the womb they know that physiologically they are just like momma. So, they try to be even more like her. That’s a relational way to grow up. Little boys come out of the womb and right away know there is a really big difference between them and momma. And then culture says, “Go out and find yourself. Find out who you really are like.” This sends us toward a non-relational way of growing up. So, men, let’s face it, we’re playing catch-up with women all the way when it comes to the subtleties of making a good marriage, partnership, or dating relationship. We just don’t “get it” where and when we should. And here is the rubber meets the road point of this article: We don’t get it about “fixing” women. We have grown up fixing things. And we also want to fix our mate’s problems because that’s what we think we’re good at. Unfortunately, women don’t need to be fixed, they need to be listened to, and then they can go fix things just fine themselves. (Men, read that line again!) The way I get around this with men is that I teach them that “listening is fixing.” It’s simply a matter of redefining what we think fixing is in this context. Remember, “Listening is fixing.” OK, easy to say, not so easy to do. Here’s how my wife taught me NOT to fix her. One day she started saying to me, “This is not helpful to me.” Note, that this is a very functional “I” statement. No blaming, no finger pointing, and not inflammatory. Just a simple statement about her reality and she left it at that. What did I do? I immediately started arguing with her, saying that, indeed, this WAS helpful to her. At this point she merely said, “And THIS is not helpful to me,” and turned and walked away. She was very self-composed and non-reactive. This pattern continued a while (I don’t want to confess how long) until it started to dawn on me that I really did want to be helpful to her, and since I apparently wasn’t being helpful, maybe I ought to ask her what would be. This is where I learned about listening to women! She taught me that “Listening is fixing!” That’s all she needed, just to be heard, and then she could go on and do whatever she needed herself. She just needed the embrace of the relationship. I’ve just given you the condensed version. It actually took quite a long time for me to really “get it,” and I still fall into the old pattern, lo, these many years later. Pam merely says, “This is not helpful to me,” and I now catch on fairly quickly. Instead of arguing, I have learned to ask, “What would be more helpful right now?” Then she gets to tell me what she wants or needs from me. Men, we’re dense, and we’ve got alot to learn. Women, you already know it, but men are dense and have alot to learn. You can help the process or hinder it, by how you educate the men in your lives. We need to know what you want and need at any given time. My wife’s self-possession, self-restraint and willingness to educate me is an example of how to do so effectively. Just don’t think it works the very first time! Steve Roberts is an experienced Marriage and Family Therapist who shares tips and real life relationship secretsfrom over 20 years of practice. To the Point - The Importance of Needle Choice

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Bev McClune Choosing the correct needle plays a big role in machine quilting. All too often problems like thread breakage, skipped stitches, bad tension and such, are simply the result of selecting the incorrect needle for the quilting job at hand. A bit of knowledge about needles can save a lot of strife. At first glance, a needle appears to be a sharp thing with a hole in it for the thread. Look closer and you will see that a needle is made of much more: The shank is the part that goes into the machine, The shaft is how thick the needle is, There is a scarf which is a little indent in the back of the needle where the stitch is formed, The groove on the front hugs or protects the thread as it goes through fabric (or quilt). Needle sizes range from 60/8, which is very fine up to 120/19, which is large and heavy duty. Remember, the lower the number the smaller the eye and the finer the needle and the higher the number the larger the eye and the thicker the needle. Before making your needle choice you need to take into account what thread you will use (is it thick, thin, rough or smooth) and then what the needle will be pushing through (weight and type of fabric, appliqu). If you have difficulties when machine quilting consider the following needle suggestions: Quilting needles have a very thin point and are the best choice for general quilting. Jeans/Denim needles are very strong needles with a very stiff shaft (for strength), a very sharp point and a slim eye. This needle is a good choice if you will be quilting through something very thick and/or appliqu pieces that have used Vliesofix to bond them to the quilt top. Embroidery needles work with embroidery threads (i.e. rayon threads, etc.) The needle has a large eye and a specially designed scarf for these very threads. Metafil / Metallica needles are meant for metallic threads. Choose this needle if your thread has a rough texture. Does the texture of the thread feel lumpy or bumpy? If so this needle type is the ideal choice as the eye is very large and is Teflon-coated to stop friction. Topstitch needles are perfect for the heavier weight threads and when all else fails! This needle is extra sharp, the eye is very long and the front groove is deep. Having a very long eye means that the needle shaft is not necessarily thick and therefore does not put large holes in the quilt. If your quilting stitches dont have a quality look about them or you have breakage, skipped stitches, tension problems, etc it might be as simple as changing the needle you use! Since discovering quilting ten years ago Bev McClune has become a professional machine quilter, a tutor of machine quilting and a partner in a patchwork and quilting business - Country Fabrics and Quilters of Toowoomba, Queensland. Bev is a featured tutor at Quiltfest, an annual quilting festival which promotes the art of patchwork and quilting. Visit Bev’s online shop at http://www.cfaq.com.au . Woodworking Tools: Right Selection And Care Will Save You Money, Part 5

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

By Ferhat Gul Woodworking: Tools Of The Trade, Part 5 - Tools For Assembly A civilization’s maturity and intelligence is judged, in part, by the diversity and sophistication of its tools. When it comes to woodworking, the human race is quite advanced. There are general tools that work well in many situations, and there are specialty tools made for one specific purpose. There are tools that require only manpower and a rudimentary knowledge, and others that utilize computer programs, a wide range of knowledge, and a powerful motor. We have even learned how to harness power for our tools and package it in a small battery component, giving us the freedom to take our tools wherever we need them. It is truly amazing and wonderful to contemplate the vast number of tools and all that woodworkers are capable of doing and creating with the help of these tools. And for many people, working with tools is one of the thrills, or even obsessions, of woodworking. Woodworking and related tools have become so popular that there are numerous companies that manufacture these tools and thousands of places to purchase them. Combine that with the vast numbers of different types of tools and it can get overwhelming, especially if you are new to woodworking. Our experts helped us focus on the basics to develop an overview of those tools needed to get a good start in woodworking. In the most basic terms, a woodworker needs four kinds of tools. They need a place to work, tools for cutting and shaping, tools for assembly, and finishing equipment. This simple statement provides the basis for the following discussion of woodworking tools. The tools listed and described here represent just the tip of the iceberg. In keeping with the philosophy that it is best to learn the basics first, and to not invest large sums of money until a person is certain that they have an ongoing interest in woodworking, the emphasis is on hand tools, with a few basic power tools thrown in. These tools should prepare you for a variety of beginner projects and give you a solid foundation of equipment and knowledge to build upon. Tools For Assembly Once you have your wood cut and shaped, you will need to assemble your project. There are tools made especially for this purpose, and the list includes some of the most familiar household tools, such as screwdrivers, hammers and drills. Screwdrivers As the name explains, screwdrivers are used for driving screws into wood. Most people are familiar with the flathead or blade screwdriver and the Phillips. There is also a square drive screwdriver for those screws with square heads. Within each of these groups, there are different sizes and specialties of screwdrivers. Some come with ratchet action or interchangeable bits. Some have magnetized tips to help hold screws. Selection Tips Most people purchase a set of screwdrivers to be sure to have a variety. Select a screwdriver with a comfortable, secure handle. Be sure the shaft doesn’t bend easily and that the blade or point is in good shape. Prices range from several dollars to over $10 for a specialty or multi-use screwdriver. Most bargain bin tools will bend easily and are not really a good buy. Care & Maintenance Avoiding rust is the main concern with screwdrivers. Wipe clean and store in a dry area. In addition, you want to be careful not to force a screw or use the wrong size as this can strip the tip of a Phillips or square cut tool. Hammers & Mallets Most people have used a claw hammer or ball peen hammer for basic household projects such as hanging pictures or putting up shelves. Hammers have metal heads for driving nails and other fasteners. A mallet has a head shaped like a pop can and is solid and heavy. They are used to drive chisels or take joints apart. The head can be made of steel, wood, or rubber. Some are magnetized. Again, most people find it helpful to have several different styles of hammers and mallets. Selection Tips A good hammer or mallet will have a solid handle with the striking head firmly attached. Some have fiberglass or reinforced handles. Others are padded. The choice is one of comfort and cost. A good hammer can be purchased for under $10 while mallets can be more expensive depending on the size. Care & Maintenance As with screwdrivers, the main concern with hammers and mallets is avoiding rust. Occasionally you may have to replace or refit a handle. Clamps When you want to hold two pieces of wood together, either with glue, or hardware such as screws, it is often handy to use clamps to hold the wood while you work or until the glue dries. In addition, clamps are important safety tools when used to hold your piece of wood securely when sawing, drilling, shaping, etc. There are many different kinds of clamps, named for the way they look, the material they are made from, how they are operated or what they are used for. The C-clamp and F-clamp, named for how they look, are two types that are usually operated by tightening a bolt. The area that comes in contact with the wood usually swivels to adjust to different angles and surfaces. These clamps come in an amazing array of sizes to accommodate nearly any job. When working with metal clamps, the teeth or surface that holds the wood can often cut or dent your material. Use scrap pieces of wood as a buffer between to avoid damaging your work. Some people use wooden hand screw clamps that consist of two blocks of wood tightened by large screws. There are also pipe clamps for large spans, trigger release clamps, edging clamps with a third tightening shoe, and several other specialty designs to fit your specific needs. A vise is a heavy-duty type of clamp that is often mounted on a workbench. It can be used in many different situations and most open quite wide to accommodate a variety of projects. Selection Tips Choose a well-know clamp or one that has been tested and recommended in woodworking magazines. New gadgets come out on the market all the time, but many of them do not work, or are not appropriate for woodworking. It can be very dangerous if your clamp slips or is difficult and distracting to use, so you want to be sure you have a safe and functional product. In addition, select the type of clamp that fits your needs and the layout of your shop. If you don’t have a designated workbench, a vise may be difficult for you to incorporate. On the other hand, you may want to set up a temporary workstation or be able to move your projects to different areas. In that case, clamps that are portable would be best. Care & Maintenance For the most part, clamps simply need to be kept clean and dry. The tightening mechanism may need to be oiled occasionally to ensure proper movement. Depending on the design of the clamp, springs or fittings may need to be checked and replaced. Drilling Tools As the name implies, a drill is used to create a hole in a piece of wood. You may want the hole to go all the way through, such as with an opening for a birdhouse, or you may want it to stop partway into the wood, such as when inserting a dowel. The size and shape of the hole are determined by the bit used. There are several different types of hand drilling tools. A brace is a powerful and useful tool that is often overlooked because of the popularity of power drills. But it is used by those who have a large hole to bore, enjoy more traditional work, don’t have an outlet nearby, or feel that the brace gives more control. It resembles an inchworm in mid-crawl, with a chuck and ratchet on one end, an oval head on the other and a handle that juts out in a squared U-shape. The chuck opens and closes to accept bits of all different sizes, and is often used for holes over 1/2 inch and up to 5 inches. The tool is used by pushing down on the head and turning in a circular motion using the handle. Another option for smaller holes is a hand drill that is powered by a drive crank and gear wheel. It is used for holes under 1/2 inch. It can be difficult to keep straight if drilling into hard wood that requires more pressure. A gimlet is a handheld tool also used for smaller, shallower holes, such as a pilot for a nail or screw. It is shaped like a T, with a handle across the top and the shank extending down perpendicular. Of course, the popularity and relative affordability of power drills has made them one of the most common of home tools. The limitation is that some of them will not take the larger bits that the brace can accommodate. Other people find them noisy and hard to hold or direct for small, intricate jobs. Selection Tips The drilling tools mentioned here range in price from $25 or $30 for a basic power drill or small hand drill to over $50 for a sturdy brace or heavy-duty power drill. They can be purchased used, but should be checked to see that the bearings are good and the chuck doesn’t slip. Bits usually are purchased separately and range in price from several dollars to over $30 each. They are often made for use with different types of wood density. When buying used, look for bits that have plenty of usable length left with straight shafts and no nicks. Care & Maintenance The main type of maintenance with drilling tools is to oil the turning parts and keep them operating smoothly. Additionally, sharp bits are essential to quality and ease of work. As with other edged tools, you may need to bring them to a professional to have them sharpened until you are able to learn more about that aspect of tool care. Tool Summary This completes part 5 of the condensed overview of some of the tools that are commonly used in beginning woodworking projects. As you can see, this topic could and has provided the content for entire volumes of books and in order to fully understand the possibilities in woodworking and create quality projects, it is critical that you develop a more in-depth knowledge of the tools you plan to use. It is also important to note again that each type of tool has its own care and maintenance needs that are often more specific than what has been touched on here. The details have been left out of this book to avoid overwhelming someone who is brand new to woodworking. However, their omission does not mean they aren’t important. “Failing to care for your tools is ridiculous from a financial standpoint,” stated shop teacher, Kevin Warner. “Why spend $20 on a good quality handsaw or clamp and then allow it to go dull or rust? Not only will you loose money, your work will suffer because your tools won’t perform as intended. And it will take you more time in the long run. Taking good care of your tools is one of the first steps in becoming a serious woodworker.” Copyright 2005 by Ferhat Gul. All rights reserved. Marketing Results Count - Don’t Let Those NOT Buying Determine What You Say in Your Marketing

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Alan Boyer Your Marketing Doesn’t Look Very Professional - In the Eye of the Beholder Do you frequently have someone tell you, “Your marketing doesn’t look very professional,” or “You ought to change …….. in your marketing” Or another one I hear very frequently is “I’d be embarrassed to say that.” Or “I might have deliver if I say that.” Trying to Satisfy All Results in Satisfying Almost No One Does it seem that, as you are trying to satisfy everyone that you can’t arrive at something that works? You get pulled in too many directions. How many people do you listen to before deciding on what works and what doesn’t? Focus More on THE BUYERS Than Those NOT BUYING First, the most important thing in your marketing is what works, not what some one or two random people say. Let’s look at it this way, marketing that works might have 5-10%, or even more, people responding to it. That also means that 90-95% of the people that read it either just didn’t respond for whatever reason including it just wasn’t the right time, or out and out didn’t like it. At 5% response that marketing was working, yet 95% of the people that saw it might tell you to change this or change that if you asked them. In fact they did tell you something, they didn’t respond. Marketing That Works vs Marketing That Doesn’t Work Let’s redefine what doesn’t work and what does–marketing that doesn’t work is getting no one, or very few people responding to it. So, when you get 5% responding, you should be jumping with glee, and then looking to see what IS working, and how you can move that up to 6%, to 7%, to 8%, to reach more people. To do that listen to those that ARE buying, not to the ones that AREN’T buying. Find out what is compelling those to buy that are buying and turn that up a bit. If you see an increase of even a few tenths of a percent aren’t you going in the right direction? Whose Opinion Counts Anyway? A good example of what not to do is a customer that called me about two years ago. They are a pretty large company and asked me if I could help them get one, JUST one, new major account a month. The first month was mostly an argument. No matter what I suggested, they wanted their ads to look like what they had already been doing, and that hadn’t been getting results. They were stuck on “this is the way to do it” even when it was delivering nothing. So, once they allowed the ad campaign to move forward, about 30 days later they were getting not the one new major account they had asked for, but 15 a week. By 90 days they were getting about 50 new clients a day. That is so far above the one a month they had asked for! However, soon thereafter, I started getting calls saying “We’ve been getting comments that our ads don’t look professional.” Then they would make a suggestion to change to something that looked exactly like the ads they had before that was delivering near zero results. Someone on their board of directors had a picture in his head of what the ads should look like, so I kept getting those calls for the biggest part of a year, but I kept them focused on the fact that they were now getting over 50 new clients a day and “professionalism” is determined by who is buying, not the one or two that had no clue about what works in marketing that were pressuring for a change. In January I got a call. “We’ve hired a major New York marketing firm to redo our marketing. I’ve sent you a copy for your approval.” Of course, when I read it, it looked like we had returned to ground zero. I mean that literally, ZERO. Of course they weren’t listening to the fact that they were returning to a concept that had gotten them zero before. By the end of January I got a call, “How could you have let this happen…you are supposed to be the expert…our calls this month dropped to only 5 for the whole month.” They had already changed the ad and the results had crashed. This is one of the times I have fired a client. Don’t Let Your Ego or Perceptions Get in the Way Don’t let your ego, or the picture in your mind of what you or anyone else think an ad SHOULD look like effect your judgment. The only thing that counts is the actual measurable result from those that are buying. There will always be a few that don’t like your ad and may even vehemently dislike it. So whose opinion about “professionalism” or “what works” is important here? In most cases, if we allowedonly one or two within that 95% that arenot buying to determine our actions we’d be back to zero results. Marketing Your Franchise Online

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Manuel Viloria Do you want to successfully market your business franchise online? Here’s an internet strategy you can use for your franchise opportunity. 1. Design a very simple web site. I’ve visited quite a number of company web sites, and their franchise page is sometimes hidden under layers of beautiful flash pages. If you insist on having a visually attractive web site, go ahead and maintain it. Please consider, however, building a partner web site that contains mostly text and no flash programming (i.e., the ones with moving images, the ones which show 15% loading….) When you have a simple web site or even a web page, your info will have a better chance of being found in the search engines. 2. Create a blog or frequently updated web site. A blog is simply a web site that can be easily updated, without you having to rely heavily on a webmaster. Each time you have a new item to write about, just login and fill-in-the-blanks (title, body of your article or post), and your web site gets updated. The more frequently your web site is updated, the more search engine robots will visit your site. When that happens, your web pages will rank higher in the search engines. Try visiting Google.com, for example, and do a search for your company name. Does your web site appear in the first page of the search engine results? 3. Package your franchise information as a downloadable PDF file. Do your potential franchise applicants surf the web a lot? I don’t know exactly how much, but it’s probably a lot less compared to their children or their friends. If you offer a downloadable PDF file about your franchise opportunity, people can download and print it. They can then pass along the printout to their retired relatives who are looking for places to invest their funds, or who are looking for turn-key businesses to run. By offering PDF files, you are in effect giving your franchise information the chance to spread around more quickly. 4. Package your franchise information as a downloadable MP3 file. It’s similar in concept to the PDF file tip above. The difference is prospective franchise applicants will get to hear your voice. You’ll come across as more progressive, more attractive, and more human. There are many people offering recordings or podcasts online. Some of them have a “promo” portion where they promote another person’s web site, podcast, or business. If you like, you can have some kind of interview which can be inserted in an MP3 file. The Bottomline Give your information a chance to spread around by offering it in various formats (html/web, pdf, mp3). Not only will you be able to get the word out faster, you’ll also be able to do it at a low cost. Copyright 2005 by Manuel Viloria. All Rights Reserved.
