6 Fashion Tips for Gardeners

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Linda Gray Clothes and skin cream are far removed from potting out your begonias, or digging a trench for a line of potatoes. But the clothes you wear are important for your protection in the garden. Here are six simple but effective solutions to various gardening hazards… 1. Starting from the top, you need to protect your head. Body heat escapes through the head and in the cold weather a warm hat should be worn. Knit yourself a ‘gardening crazy’ hat or buy a simple woollen hat on the high street. And in the summer, even more attention should be paid to the head. The sun’s rays are not only hot but they actually burn you. We all know this but how easy it is to forget when you want to soak up the sun after months of grey or cold weather. Invest in a cool sunhat. Not only will it help protect you from sunstroke, it will also protect against the drying out of your hair and skin. 2. Keep one old comfortable jacket or short coat, preferably with fairly large pockets, especially for the garden. When you’re working, you won’t need to worry about dirty marks. Leave them there, it’s all part of the gardener’s designer uniform! 3. Suitable trousers.. again keep a couple of old pairs especially for gardening. Wear heavy duty jeans for heavy duty work. A good waterproof pair are handy in damp climates. In fact, in damp climates, a whole waterproof gardening suit is invaluable. There is always planting to do in the rain, and a waterproof hat, jacket and trousers tucked in a pair of boots will keep you nice and dry! 4. Protect your hands. For light work, potting on or pinching out tomato plants, a disposable plastic pair of gloves or a pair of kitchen rubber gloves will be enough. For heavier work - pruning roses, weeding thistles and nettles, wear heavy duty gardening gloves, or your hands will suffer. 5. Watch those toes! Invest in a pair of steel toe capped boots and wear them! If you’re pottering in the greenhouse or doing a little weeding, a simple pair of wellington boots will do, or even sandals if the weather allows. But as soon as you pick up a large tool, your steel toe-caps should be worn. If you’re not used to them, these boots can feel heavy and cumbersome at first, but stick with it. If you’re doing heavy work, you need heavy boots. 6. And last but certainly not least, you must protect your skin. Moisturise all exposed body parts whenever you are woking in the garden, rain or shine. Working outside will give you a nice healthy glow, but the wind and sun will dry your skin given half a chance. So there we have it, not a fashion designer’s dream, but these 6 garden fashion tips will make life a lot more comfortable, and safer, for the average home gardener. Happy gardening! Personal Loan - A Flexible Solution For All Your Financial Troubles

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Carry]John Carry Often called the most flexible loan, a personal loan gives the borrower a chance to utilise the loan amount for whatever purpose. Though a particular purpose has to be mentioned in the application for the loan, there is no restriction as such on the use of the personal loan. You can utilise it for Home renovation, if you are not happy with the present looks of your house Debt consolidation, if you have borrowed multiple loans and are struggling to manage them together Car purchase Footing your long medical bills Paying for the expenses of an exotic holiday, or Wedding expenses in the family Like some other financial products, a personal loan, too, can be secured or unsecured. A secured [http://www.go4ukloans.co.uk/personalloan.html target=_blank]personal loan is secured against your house. If you already have an outstanding mortgage on the house, you could get a loan equal to the equity left in your house. Secured personal loan offers you the following benefits: Easy terms and conditions Low interest rates Long repayment term Low monthly instalments It must be kept in mind however that in the event of your failing to pay back the loan, your collateral could be sold off by the lender to recover the loan amount. An unsecured personal loan doesnt require collateral, but this very reason makes granting an unsecured loan a high-risk enterprise for the lender. He therefore is left with no other option than to charge high interest rates on the loan. The repayment term of unsecured personal loan is also short. These disadvantages however can be ignored by you if you consider the facts that you run no risk in the event of non-payment and that the loan is disbursed very fast to you. A personal loan can be secured by you even if you have adverse credit history. Remember, however, that the securing the loan will be easy for you if you offer collateral. Go through the interest rates of the major lenders UK before you apply for a personal loan. This helps you choose the right deal for yourself. Also, apply online to avoid paperwork and save time. Finding the Fish

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Liza Othman TROUT - The fisherman who catches fish will, if he is on a trout brook, pay as much attention to the unlikely looking places, as he will to the inviting pools, on the theory that any fool has enough sense to fish in water that looks good, whereas he would pass by that uninviting little hole as a waste of time. But the uninviting little holes are the ones that often yield the catch, especially in any brook which is commonly termed “fished out.” Don’t slur over that part of a brook which winds through the meadow, and whose banks are bare of shade - the other fellow didn’t stop there. When you are on a mountain brook don’t take anybody’s word for it that there are no trout above the falls - find out for yourself. They may not have run the rapids going up, that’s true, but a wood duck or a snipe might have carried some fish spawn above the falls on his feet. In lake fishing, it is more of “an open field and no favor,” and yet the old rule of “persistence and common sense” wins out in the long run against “faint heart and poor judgment.” SALMON - After the ice goes out troll back and forth off the mouths of the brooks which feed the lake, because there this lordly fish will be feeding on the tinker smelts and other small fry, which are going and coming up and down the brooks on their spawning tours. In June and July the salmon is in deeper water and farther off shore - use a little lead. In August he is down deep and you are lucky indeed if you get one a month in surface trolling. Instead of this anchor in 50, 75, or 100 feet of water and plug deep for him with a hardy, live bait, which the water pressure won’t kill. Have a long anchor line and the gentle wind will give you considerable fishing latitude. In September go back to trolling and keep off shore in 10 or 15 feet of water; also don’t forget to troll back and forth across the brook mouths, because now the salmon is pluming himself for his spawning tour up stream again and is following the shore line until he finds the brook. BLACK BASS - Troll for them just after the ice moves in the coves or in the vicinity of log booms, which bring them wood worms and other feed. Early in June, you will find them getting ready to go to housekeeping in the rocky bottom shallows along the shore, and now is the time for the fly. Don’t neglect the sandy coves either, because year after year the same bass spawn there. Often they are big fellows and much lighter in color than their rock bottom brethren. The larger bass along all shores make their spawning beds in deeper water and the smaller ones farther in shore. Cast accordingly. 100% Home Equity Loan

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christian_Louis]Christian Louis Planning to buy a new car? Thinking of extending your home? Dont have enough money to pursue higher studies in a reputed institution? There is no need to worry at all. You can easily get a 100% Home Equity Loan to achieve your dreams. The functioning of 100% Home Equity Loan is similar to that of the credit card. One can use the loan continuously up to the credit limit. The main advantages of 100% Home Equity Loan is that the interest is lower than that of the credit card and the interest paid is tax deductible. All you need is to talk with your tax planner or financial advisor to know about the tax deductions. As the name states, with 100% Home Equity Loan, you can borrow up to 100% of your homes value at fixed rate of interest. For the reason that you receive the money you borrow in a lump sum, it will be an ideal option to achieve long term financial goals. Generally, the period of repayment of 100% Home Equity Loans is much shorter than ordinary mortgages. Ways to Use 100% Home Equity Loan Take cash only for genuine and specific reasons. Save your tax payments through Home Equity loans whose interest may be fully tax deductible. Home Equity can be used as the part of down payments to get better terms of home purchase or loan refinancing. Through home equity, you can obtain “instant cash” which can be used for other investments or other emergencies as they come up. How to Get a 100% Home Equity Loan If you need instant money and you have your home as equity, it is very easy to get the loan since real estate is the collateral most lenders seek after. The way of attaining a home equity loan can be illustrated using an example. Consider that your home worth $1000 and you owe $400 as mortgage. So, you now have a home equity of $600. With this, you wont get a loan amounting $600 since if he pays you that amount, you will be 100% financed and if you fail to repay the loan the loss is only for the lender. Hence in most cases lenders need you to hold an equity level above the first mortgage and home equity loan combined. What to look before taking 100% Home Equity Loan: Obtain as many offers as many as you get and compare the advantages and disadvantages of each and choose the best among them. Go for fixed rate loans so that the interest will neither rise nor fall like adjustable rate loans. If going for an adjustable rate loan, make sure that the maximum and minimum interest rates are specified. Make sure that you can afford to pay the monthly interest and amortization. Make the contracts reviewed by professionals. Dating: What Is It Exactly?

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By David McFarlane Many couples stop dating once they have chosen to remain together be it getting married, or even having children. But love can disappear from a relationship without intimacy or romance. Not surprisingly, couples whom successfully continue dating each other even after they have been together for a long time keep their passions for each other alive. On the other hand, not all couples need to date in order for this to happen, with other aspects of their relationship keeping their love strong for each other. In the West dating is fairly casual, while in many traditional countries it is considered a highly structured activity, with very specific formal rules. In some countries, parents or community members choose potential partners then limited dating is allowed in order to determine whether or not the partners are suited to one another. In some cultures, dating is completely removed altogether with arranged marriages, where partners are chosen for young people usually by their parents. Dating can involve any number of methods, such as face-to-face dating, virtual dating, phone conversations, the writing of letters, poetry, songwriting or the giving of gifts. Dating literally means the act of going out on dates. In the West, a date is an event where one person spends time with a potential lover in a social surrounding. This event is arranged in advance, and is usually an exclusive meeting of two people with mutual interest in one another. This allows the two parties to communicate and understand each other better in this sense, the purpose of dating is for the people to become acquainted with each other and decide whether or not to persue a relationship. When dating, people often explore one anothers personalities, in order to discover if they would be compatible together in a relationship or not. The discovery of poor or low compatibility would more often than not signal the end of the relationship. Personal information found when dating may include attitudes, habits, preferences, interests, maturity, background, political views or age gaps. A person usually tries to show their best qualities when dating, as well as being on their best behavior dressing up or using perfume or cologne might also be used to attract the other person. Dating is going out and doing something (like having dinner and then going to the cinema), but dating may continue between dates through various methods including meeting online, talking on the phone, or writing each other letters. Tort Law Change and Its Impact on Society

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Richard Hall A tort is a wrongful act, damage, or injury that is done willfully, negligently, or in situations that involve strict liability. However, a Tort does not involve contract breach in which a civil lawsuit might be initiated. Recently, we have seen supporters of the legal system in this country trying to connect litigation for torts with a number of things such as pushing medical professionals out of business all the way to closing down public parks. Most of these supporters agree that the current tort system in this country is putting a huge strain on the economy. This issue has become so serious that even President Bush is pushing for tort law change in which our economic growth would be improved, particularly through the creation of new jobs. While tort litigation is not going anywhere and it is valuable in some cases, the current law is forcing liability insurance to outrageous levels in many sectors. For instance, because of the high cost of tort litigation, we see wages decreasing, corporate profits being greatly affected, productivity going down, and even research and development being discouraged. The bottom line is that the rising cost of torts is having a dynamic impact on our society. Many now argue that by changing the current tort system, we would have a chance of boosting the economy while others feel a new tort system would actually have the opposite effect in discouraging the development of new jobs. Let us look at how the current tort system plays. A mother and child decide to spend a sunny afternoon at the local community swimming pool. While the child is jumping off the side of the pool into the water, the mother gets up to go inside for something to drink. At this same time, the on-duty lifeguard is working in another area of the pool. The child jumps into the shallow end, hits his head on the bottom of the pool, and becomes paralyzed. Although the mother may not win a lawsuit in court, her claim of negligence toward the lifeguard would consume legal fees in his/her defense. Now, apply the current tort laws with every aspect of our society, and you can see how significant the problem is. For instance, the woman who spilled hot coffee in her lap after buying it from McDonalds was actually awarded money. Her claim in the lawsuit was that the coffee was too hot and that no warning was provided, not that she was at fault for spilling it. We see so many instances in which the current tort laws affect the economy of this society. Keep in mind that the tort system does offer benefits. For instance, unsafe products, inappropriate practices, respectful resolution, are all good things. However, when you look at the current tort laws and weigh pros and cons, some serious issues come to light. Changing this law is something being scrutinized to determine if in fact a new tort system would boost the economy while still provide protection needed in cases of wrongful act, damage, or injury. By Randy Wilson While you may be headed to Las Vegas for a quickie wedding or a prolonged celebration, take time to find out what the law requires before you buy that plane ticket. Each states laws differ, and many couples get married in Las Vegas because the law allows them to marry quickly. But dont start planning your nuptials until you check out this all-important piece of the wedding cake. A Las Vegas wedding ceremony must conform to Nevada wedding laws to be considered legal. Marriage license bureaus are available at several locations in and around Las Vegas as well as other cities in the state. Men can only marry women and vice versa. Identification is required and may be proven with a valid drivers license, state-issued ID card, original or certified copy of your birth certificate, a passport, military identification, or resident alien card. The fee ranges from $35 to $42, depending on which county the license is purchased from. Divorced persons must know the day, month, and year of their divorce. Although marriage regulations may not be the most exciting part of the wedding preparations, they certainly are one of the most important! Collecting Past Due Accounts

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By Cheryl E. Cook What do you gain by winning a lottery sized settlement with a bankrupt company? This is your cash flow situation when you allow your accounts receivable to grow. Getting the sale is wonderful, but collecting payment is the key to positive cash flow. Follow your credit policy with all clients. Don’t assume that because your contact is a nice person that you’ll get paid. Your contact may not control the purse strings of the company. Any special agreements with the company must be in writing. Should your contact leave the company, there would be no memory of any special agreement you may have made for payment. Just as you reconfirm flights and accomodations for an important trip, leave nothing to chance when it comes to collecting your past due accounts, if you want a positive cash flow. The Five Debt Triggers for Women

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By B. Williams The average American is over $7,100 in debt (not including a mortgage) and three out of five families can’t afford to pay off their credit cards each month. Still, as a culture we keep spending-on clothing, luxury cars, gourmet meals, electronics, CDs, you name it-and some would surely argue that spending is an integral part of being American (even President Bush asked Americans to keep spending as our patriotic duty after the September 11th attacks). But for the 17 million Americans who simply can’t control how much they shop (that’s more than one in 20 of us), this spending quickly turns from a pastime into a problem. And it’s a problem that affects, overwhelmingly, women. About 90 percent of shopaholics are female. It’s a powerful problem because, for women, shopping is not just about getting a new pair of jeans. It’s an emotional experience, tied to feelings of pleasure, power, guilt and entitlement, that can drive an otherwise “together” woman into debt and even bankruptcy. Following are six of the more common triggers that can start you spiraling downward financially. Being aware of them, and whether they’re happening to you (be honest!), is the first step to regaining, or keeping, your financial security. 1. “I Deserve It.” Using Shopping as a Reward You’re working hard, spending long days in the office or taking care of the kids, and you deserve something nice. But while a new pair of earrings here and there won’t break the bank, you soon may find yourself wanting more extravagant items to reward your hard work. Instead of heading to the mall to make yourself feel good after a hard day’s work, reward yourself with something that doesn’t cost much at all: a walk outside, a long bubble bath, listening to music or reading that book you’ve been meaning to get to. 2. Depression, Sadness or Loneliness: “These New Shoes Will Make me Feel Better.” If you’re unhappy with your life-your work, your relationship, your family-or you’ve just had a fight with your best friend, you may be driven to shop. Buying something new makes you feel good, but the pleasure is fleeting so you must buy more and more just to feel normal. And you’re able to justify your spending because, after all, you deserve to feel good, don’t you? This cycle is similar to that of binge eating or gambling-it’s a brief high that takes your mind off the real underlying problem. Some experts are so convinced that compulsive shopping is a type of mental illness that they’re experimenting with antidepressants to treat the obsession. One Stanford study, led by psychiatrist Lorrin Koran, found that of 24 compulsive shoppers, 60 percent were helped by taking an antidepressant. Said Koran, “It meant they didn’t turn on the shopping channel anymore It meant they could go to the mall and not buy things they didn’t need. It was a tremendous relief.” But rather than popping a pill, which could exchange one addiction for another, it seems the real solution is to address the reasons why you’re sad, lonely, depressed, etc. in the first place. 3. Fear of Missing Out on a Great Deal: “This skirt was $750 Now it’s Only $350!” Do you buy things just because they’re on sale, or feel an overwhelming urge to go to your favorite store just in case you might miss a good deal? If so, bargains are a major spending trigger for you. If you go over your budget to buy something you don’t need just because of a markdown, you’re not really saving money. It’s great to take advantage of specials on useful items you need or those occasional luxuries you were in the market for anyway. But even if those designer shoes you just noticed “used to cost $650 are half off” you’re still spending $325! 4. Recreation: “If I Didn’t go Shopping, I Don’t Know What I’d Do.” Shopping is a social activity and one that many women (and increasing numbers of men) enjoy. But if you find yourself spending money simply for a lack of something better to do, it’s time to find a new pastime. Try something away from the shopping mall, like taking dance lessons, entertaining friends at home or taking up an outdoor hobby like biking or hiking. 5. Using Credit Cards to Live Beyond Your Means: “I’ll Pay it Off Later.” Rather than coming up with a monthly budget, many women, especially those in their 20s who’ve just gotten their first real job (and real paychecks), spend indiscriminately and use credit cards to make ends meet at the end of the month. This is easily rationalized when we know that “even though there’s a big balance on my credit cards, I can just make the minimum monthly payments.” This will catch up with you fast, though, and soon you’ll have a looming credit balance that could take 10 years or more to pay off. Being aware of your personal spending triggers, and avoiding them, is one of the best ways to take control of your spending. It is worth remembering this principal: if you don’t spend it now, you don’t have to pay for it later! ———————- Sources Reader’s Digest March 2005 MSN Money: You Might be a Shopaholic iVillage: 5 Common Debt Triggers CNN Money: Are You a Shopaholic?
